September 2017 – What I’m Reading

pexels-photo-76942Anyone who knows me also knows that I LOVE to read.  It took me a couple of years to convert from real books to digital books when the Kindle came out.  But, once I adjusted to my Kindle, my obsession with reading got even worse.  Being able to carry hundreds of books with me in something the size of a small tablet fueled the fire.

I will read just about anything.  Ok, I take that back.  Not a big fan of sci-fi or romance.  Not only is my reading for pleasure, it’s also for feeding my intense curiosity.

There’s a general rule that to be well versed on a topic, you need to read three books on it.  It’s not uncommon for me to go through half a dozen books in a row on the same subject.  This doesn’t include random things I hear about and search on the internet for hours.

Naturally, with the idea of starting a blog, I started researching how to do it.  Yes, I know how a blog works but I wanted more than just a simple blog.

The book I’ve started with is Ruth Soukup’s How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul.  My first instinct would be to go through the book quickly but, per her advice in the book, I’m taking it slowly and actually DOING the steps she outlines as I go.  Of course I use the Kindle edition.  But, there are lots of notes and highlighted passages in my copy.  There may be other books that work just as well for you, but I like her style and thought process so I’m sticking to her plan.  It’s simple and she shows lots of examples and explains what did and didn’t work for her and why.  If you are interested in reading this book, you can find it on Amazon here.

For my “pleasure” book, I’m reading Travelling to Infinity:  My Life with Stephen by Jane Hawking.  As she goes into some detail about Stephen’s occupation, it sometimes gets a little sluggish for me.  For the most part, I enjoy the book.  I prefer that parts where she goes into detail about their home and family life with all of its ups and downs.  It’s worth a read, even if you struggle through the math and science parts.

Check out Jane’s book here.
