On The Night Stand – October 2017

A-Christmas-Story-Ralphie-a-christmas-story-40057768-2400-1762Yeah, I’m late on posting this one.  But, it’s been hectic AND I’ve been spending a lot of time reading this month’s choice.

This month’s reading pleasure is:

Wanda Hickey’s Night of Golden Memories and Other Disasters by Jean Shepherd.

If you liked the movie A Christmas Story, you’ll love this book.  The movie was actually adapted from Jean Shepherd’s articles . . . which were published originally in Playboy.  Didn’t see that one coming did you?

The stories are funny (mostly because they are real and we all know people who the characters remind us of) and actually clean cut.

Jean has other books, but a friend suggested I start with this one since I was familiar with the movie.  Heads up . . . in the articles/book, it’s Easter and it’s a ham, not a turkey.  Despite that difference, the whole thing is likeable and an easy read since it’s broken up into short stories.

It’s especially endearing to us Hoosiers since Shepherd grew up in Hammond, Indiana.

There IS an actual A Christmas Story house!  It’s located in Cleveland, Ohio.  You can do tours and even spend the night there!  In case you don’t spend all of your money and time at the house, there is an A Christmas Story museum across the street!

Peace, Love & Ralphie!
